Visiting & Contacting Us

All contact and location details can be found on the Contact Us page.

If you are planning to research at PROV you will find it helpful to familiarise yourself with our services, outlined in PROVguide 1. You can perform an increasing variety of research tasks through this website, but to view original records you must visit a Reading Room.

We also conduct regular tours of our facilites and introductory seminars on research using public records.

Group Visits
A large number of groups from family history and other societies are visit Public Record Office Victoria reading rooms each year. If your group is planning a visit to either the Victorian or Ballarat Archives Centres, please contact the Archivist, Reading Rooms to discuss your plans. We can then help schedule your visit to minimise any delays in accessing resources and ordering records.

Study Delegations
We also have a program for delegations studying PROV's archival and records management practices. See the Delegation Program page for details.

If you can't visit us
You might consider using a search agent. Search agents undertake research for a fee. See PROVguide 15: List of Search Agents for contact details.

We have also licensed a network of organisations across Victoria that hold public records. One of these organisations may hold information relevant to your research. You can find a list of these organisations on the Places of Deposit page.
