Murder notice
Victoria Police Gazette, 9 March 1892, p. 69. PROV Library Collection

In the nineteenth-century, gazettes were one of the main ways in which governments transmitted important news. Within days of the discovery of Emily's body, notices appeared in both the Victoria Government Gazette and the Victoria Police Gazette offering a reward of £100 for information which would lead to the arrest and conviction of Albert Williams. Above is the full page and below the entry on Deeming, who is referred to as Albert Williams.
