The Humble Petition of Baron
Swanston a prisoner in Her
Majestys Gaol at Melbourne
awaiting execution of sentence of
death
The
Showeth
1. That your Petitioner was in the name
of Albert Williams on the second day of May 1892
sentenced at the Criminal Sittings of the Supreme Court at
Melbourne by His Honour Mr Justice Hodges to be taken
at such time and to such place as your Excellency
shall direct and that your Petitioner be then and there
hanged by the neck until he be dead.
2. That accompanying this Petition will be
found a letter written by Mr Marshall Lyle your
Petitioners solicitor addressed to your Excellency
setting forth the grounds for this Petition.
Wherefore Your Petitioner humbly prays
that Your Excellency will be pleased to
carefully read weigh and consider the said
letter and that your Excellency will be
pleased to commute the said sentence or
to respite it pending further investigations
And your Petitioner as in duty bound
will ever pray.
