Passenger List Indexes
  • The Immigration Indexes are a very simple method of introducing students to historical research and the archives.
  • There are 3 index lists but the ‘Index of Unassisted Inward Passengers 1852-1923’ is the best to start with. Teachers/students can search for details of when their ancestors arrived in Victoria.
  • They can enter a surname and any other information available such as the year someone migrated or the names of the ship on which they came to Victoria.
  • The Index gives you a persons’ age, date of arrival, the port and lists all the other passengers on the ship and the port they left from- B (British), F (Foreign), N (New Zealand).
