While many buildings around Melbourne provided temporary office accommodation for Commonwealth departments, few have survived the advent of the office skyscraper or the expansion of larger neighbours. The north west corner of Flinders Lane and Russell Street was once occupied by Chelford House, the offices of a number of different Commonwealth departments between 1918-1928, including the Naval Works and Railways Branch of the Works and Railways Dept (1918) and the Commonwealth Navigation Service (1924-1926).

Not as lucky as the VCA building, Chelford House was swallowed up by extensions to the T & G Building.
