CNR SWANSTON AND FLINDERS STREETS

Flinders Street Station was another building in which offices were leased to the Commonwealth Government. The offices of the Crown Solicitor, the Commissioner of Patents and the Registrar of Trademarks, Designs and Copyright were all located here at one time. JW Fawcett and HPC Ashworth's Edwardian Baroque, "blood and bandage" (red brick and cement) styled building was more than just a railway station. Constructed between 1900-1911, the facilities offered to railway employees and tenants of the various offices, included dining and refreshments rooms, the clubroom-like Victorian Railways Institute rooms and even a grand ballroom.
