Welcome to the Our Nation's First Capital Cybertour Part of the touring exhibition Our Nation's First Capital: Federation and the City of Melbourne, 1901-1927, this site will take you on three virtual tours of the city of Melbourne, concentrating on different aspects of the Federation story as expressed in architecture, images and reports from the time. The first tour "Federation" focuses on the road to Federation in Australia and sites where decisions to become a nation were made and voted on. The second tour "Celebration" retraces the steps of the royal procession through Melbourne streets to celebrate the opening of the first Federal Parliament. The third tour "Government" looks at the sites of Federal Government in Melbourne during the first quarter of the century. You can follow through the story in order by clicking on the "Begin tour" buttons on the right of the screen. Each tour is linked to a map which places the sites in relation to each other and allows you to browse for places of interest. The buttons at the top of the page will take you to a different tour map or bring you back to this page. This site will be developed and added to through the Federation year. Please email us with any bugs, comments or suggestions that you may have. |
