Bourke Street provided one more arch before the procession drove on towards William Street. The Duke's Arch, gilded and covered in velveteen, stood between Swanston and Elizabeth Streets. A model of the Duke's man-o-war, mechanically operated to rock on imaginary waves, topped the arch as a special nautical tribute to the "Sailor Prince": the realistic effect was increased, when on the arrival of the Royal party at the arch, the "ship's" guns fired a royal salute and the "Welcome" pennant was hoisted.
