Sir
In reference to my letter of the 28th ult
I have the honor to state for the information of His
Excellency the Governor that I have fixed upon
a site for the [crossed out: Native] village of the Native
police it is about twenty miles from this
and in about an east south east direction
it possesses every necessary advantage and is
the part of the country the blacks themselves
prefer. I think it will be necessary to preserve
a considerable extent of country around them
from Squatters otherwise they may be constantly
liable to be interfered with I have already
been obliged to order Mr R Allan to move, for
he occupied the place I had chosen as soon as
he was aware I had done so and I fear I may
yet have some trouble with him. Some governt
regulation to prevent any one interfering in any
way with those blacks who have attached
themselves to any of the Governt establishments will
I think be very necessary, and also that some
penalty be attached to the infringement of the
regulation
I have the honor to report that Mr H Smythe
has joined the Survey & request I may be
informed from what date he may be returned
for pay & at what rate. he joined on the 18 inst.
I have the honor to be
