No 38/128
Melbourne 21 Sept 38
Sir
I have the honor to report for the
information of His Excel the Governor that in
conformity with the instructions conveyed to
me in your letters of the 5th May & 6 July last
I have reappointed Mr De Villiers to the charge
of the Native Police at the Authorised rate of
pay of £100 a year, to take effect from the
18 inst. The blacks to be [crossed out: assembled] embodied
in it are therefore being assembled, and I
propose on this occasion to establish them
in the paddock adjoining that in which I
at present reside instead of forming a station
at a distance. I will cause some huts
to be erected for them and a small dwelling
for Mr De Villiers by them, if His Ex has no
objection, and until I receive further directions
will direct each black belonging to the police
to receive the daily ration authorised by your
letter of the 3d June 1837 for the Blacks at the
Mission Station.
I have the honor to be
Sir
W Lonsdale
