Mount Eckersly
October 10th 1843

Sir,
I have the honor to forward
a report of my proceedings [crossed out: for]
during the last month. I left
Mount Eckersly on the 8th of last
month and proceeded to Port Fairy
and remained some days in
that neighbourhood. I visited
some of the stations on the Hopkins
Mount Eels, Mount Napier and
the Grange, also the Grampians
the Wannon and the Glenelg.
The Natives I think have
ceased committing depredations
for this reason, and there is at

time of the year plenty of food
for them in the bush.

The lesson they have been taught
lately I trust will have the effect
of deterring them from attacking
the lives and property of the settlers.

At none of the stations that I
have visited this month have
they been at all troublesome.

I purpose proceeding immediate
ly through the District again
which will occupy my time
until the beginning of Novem=
ber and if by that time the
Natives are quiet I would pro-
pose returning to Melbourne
unless I receive contrary in-
structions from your Honor.
