Sir,
I have had the honor to
receive your letter No. 47/222 of 6th
Feby - referring to me for in-
formation required by the Colonial
Secretary, in his letter No. 47/57 of
January 28th “Under what
authority Mr W. Dana acted hostilely
towards the Blacks by surrounding
their camps at night” – observing,
“that surely the Commissioner did not
mean to imply such a proceeding
when he directed Mr Dana to use
every exertion to recover the female
alluded to” –

In reply I have the honor to
State that my instructions to the
Officers of the Native Police, relative
to the search after the white woman
said to be detained by the wild
Blacks of this District, have always
been
