In acknowledging the receipt
of your letter of the 10th Instant,
No 47/354, enclosing the copy of one
addressed to you by the
Commissioner of Crown Lands
Gipps’ Land, stating that he
had enquired into a report
promulgated by a Mr
Warman one of the persons
sent from Melbourne in
search of the White Female
supposed to be detained by
the

of Port Phillip

letter statg that ye rumour of ye
destrn of 14 blacks at Summer Hill
& was fd to be witht foundtn
the wild natives of Gipps Land,
that the Native Police had on
the 21st January last, shot
fourteen Blacks in a Scrub
between Summer Hill and
Spring Hill on the River Mc
Alister, and had found it
to be without foundation-
I am directed by His Excellency
the Governor to observe, that
Mr Warman should be
apprised accordingly.
