Melbourne 26th March 1847

Sir
I have the honor to inform you -
pursuant to your request, the result of the Warrant
issued by you and directed to Constable OBryan
and other Constables of the Colony authorizing
the arrest, of the man named in the margin
and specialy directing him to be brought
before you,

On Monday the 22nd Inst. Constable
OBryan informed me he had arrested an
Aboriginal Native by virtue of a Warrant near
the Merri Merri Creek and for safe custody
lodged him in the Watch house on the Eastern
hill, he also gave me the Warrant authorizing
the arrest, On Tuesday the 23rd Inst. I -
received the prisoner named in the Margin
from the Melbourne Watch house Keepers.
James Smith Esqr J P. observed the name of the
prisoner on the Melbourne Watch house list
of that morning requested to know the Charge
preferred against him, I produced the
Warrant authorizing the arrest, and was
directed by James Smith Esqr J P. to
inquire whether Capt Dana, in town
as the prisoner according to the terrms
of the Warrant must be brought before
the Magistrate who issued the same
I inquired at the Club house and was
informed Capt Dana, was expected
in Town. I then directed one of
