Statement of Mr. Mathew Macalister

Having questioned Taggawadden
regarding the white woman that is
supposed to be with the wild blacks
of Gipp’s Land. He states that
she came on shore from a wreck
in company with two white men
and that she is now living with the
blacks and has got two children -
He also says that the two white men
went in the direction of Melbourne -
Taggawadden is about nine or ten
years of age - He says that he was
too young to remember her arrival
but he has often heard the other
blacks talk about it - From the
size he says that the children are,
I think she must be seven or eight
years with them

Commissioner Crown Lands Office
Port Albert 1st. April 1846

Sir,
Circumstances have recently trans-
-pired that lead to the belief that a
white woman is living with some of
the Aborigines of this District: - and it
appearing to me that as a preliminary
to her recovery it is requisite to open a
communication with the Lake Wellington
Tribe to which the Boy Tack a wadden
is said to belong, I request you will
have the goodness to proceed immediately
with Mr. McMillan’s Storekeeper, two
Troopers of the Native Police, and
Tack a-wadden in search of the Tribe -
and when at a convenient distance
from their Camp to send the Boy
to his Tribe for the purpose of inviting
his father to proceed with him to
Boisdale - Should you succeed in
this you should do all in your power
to gain his confidence by treating him
with kindness.

You will be at liberty to draw
from the Contractor a blanket or any
other small article that may conduce
to his comfort -

You must also endeavour to
keep him at Boisdale until my return
from

Mr. Walsh
Native Police
