Sir,
Mr. L. Macalister, a
Settler of this District, having
forwarded to me a copy of a
letter which he has addressed
to Your Honor, requesting to know
how far the Commr. of Crown Lands
is to interfere with, and to con-
trol the Native Police – and com-
plaining at the same time
that the usefulness of the Native
Police has been crippled by
the injudicious interference of
that Officer. I feel it my
duty as well for my own
Justification, as to prevent
the mischief likely to accrue
to the district by Mr. Macalister’s
Statement, if left uncontradicted,
to make my comments upon
that
