often times, I have seen myself indepen-
-dently of what has been represented to
me, by others, the manner the Native
Police have been employed by Mr Tyers,
on duties, so foreign, to the purposes for
which that valuable little corps was
organised, and still maintained.

I beg to be allowed to observe
that I am convinced, from my long
experience of the Character of the
Aborigines, that, interference with the
Native Troopers, excepting through there
own Officers, is calculated most se-
-riously to affect their discipline,
and usefulness. The
[Crossed out: The] Gentlemen placed as Officers,
over them, ought to appear in there Eyes,
the greatest men, where they act.

If they observe these Gentlemen
slighted, and treated with contempt
they will view them in like light.

In submitting the above
observations for your consideration,
I most unequivocally disclaim
being actuated by unfriendly feelings

But not only my own means of
existence, but that of several other Parties,
depend upon the security of property
in this District.- And I cannot
look passively on, and see it placed
in jeopardy, when proper and available
measures might prevent it.
