was divided into small
parties and detached to
different points of the
district when a regular
system of patrol was
kept up along the South
Australian Boundary as
far as Lake Hindmarsh
and the Wimmera. They
were very useful in checking
horse stealing and the then
common occurrence of
servants absconding from
their employers. The Division
was recalled to Headquarters
on the 25 of November
for inspection and brought
with it the thanks of a
number of the Settlers and
also an urgent request
that it might be allowed
to return to the district
