Sir
I have the honor to report for
the information of His Excellency the
Lieut. Governor, that the party of
men ordered to be raised as a Mounted
Patrol for the Kilmore District is now
ready to be placed on duty. I have
therefore to request that any further
orders you may deem necessary
for my guidance may be issued,
as I am now ready to proceed and
place the men on their respective
Beats. The number of horses having
been with some difficulty completed
and everything else with the exception
of uniforms and handcuffs
being ready, I purpose placing

available principally
for the maintenan of order
upon the two great lines of
road - to the workings - their head
quarters may be Kilmore - but they
must [crossed out:als] always be afoot & employed in
patrolling - unless called to go further upon express
duty in a circuit which may be roughly defined
to run Melbourne Kilmore [crossed out: illegible] Keynton & back
to Melbourne. If it be deemed objectionable to carry the
expense wholly to account of the Native Police appropria-
tion - the extra expense must be
borne upon the Gold fund.
