In reply to your letter of the
15th. instant requesting the authority of
His Excellency the Lieutenant Governor to
engage ten men at the rate of pay named
in the margin, as a Patrol, and for the
purchase of five horses, I have the honor
to inform you that the Lieutenant Governor
has directed me to convey to you the
necessary authority for engaging ten
men as a Patrol, at the rate of pay proposed
by you, and for the purchase of five horses:
the ten suits of Clothing, arm handcuffs
and appointments you will obtain
from the Clerk of Stores. The expenditure to
be incurred for this service will, by direction
of His Excellency, be borne on the Gold
fund till otherwise provided for.
2. I am to inform you, that, as soon
as you report yourself ready, His Excellency
will be prepared to give you instructions
as to the employment of the men to be
engaged as a Patrol.
