I have the honor to
report for the information of
His Excellency the Lieutenant

his orders. I proceeded with
Mr. Armstrong to Mr. Donald Camerons
Station on the Deep Creek near
Mount Greenock, for the purpose
of gaining information respecting
the Gold field, lately discovered on
his station, and report on the
number of people at work thereon.
I arrived at Clunes on
the 27th. ultimo and in company
with Mr Wright - Commissioner of

the ground of specimens of Gold
having been found in various
parts of the Pyrenees I considered
it my duty to visit with Mr Armstrong
the different localities, the result of
which from the very heavy rains
and flooded state of the Creeks and
Rivers, it was impossible to ascertain
with certainty, whether Gold exists
in quantities; but from the geological
features of the Country it is the
opinion of Mr. Armstrong as well as
myself that it does exist in more
or less quantities in the Pyrenees
ranges, and the lower country
near Mr. Halls Station on the
Loddon.
On the Sixth of August
I returned to Clunes and found
that a considerable number of
men had arrived at the “Diggins”
and were at work with more or
