Glenmona
17th. March 1849
Sir,
Your despatch of
the 10th. I received today
and according to instructions
have sent an authority to
a party in Melbourne to
receive my pay
I have also to inform
you that in consequence of the
water at the Daisy-hill hut
having become unfit for
use, I had to remove the party
from that place to the creek
near the Station of Messrs. McNeill
Hall- however I padrole [sic] over
the ground dily [sic] where the Gold
Mine
H. E. Pultney Dana Esqr
Commandant
Native police
mine is supposed to be, (which
is all the duty we perform) - but
without having seen any person
for the last month in search of
gold
I have sent Trooper Charlie
to Head Quarters on account of
his horse being lame ever since
we arrived, and consequently unfit
for any duty - should another
man be sent up in his place
perhaps he could bring up
some articles of clothing for me
as I am half naked
I have been compelled to draw
forage for the horses as the grass
is entirely burned up for miles
around this place-
The men have conducted
themselves very orderly through
out- but they stand much in
need of blankets - two having
only the remnant of old Blue Coats
I have the honor to be
Sir
Your most obedient Servant
R McLelland
Sergeant
