Image 27: Samuel Calvert, The white captive

This drawing accompanies an article in The Illustrated Australian News of 1 February 1872 telling the story of another lost white woman. The woman is a young bride separated from her husband while travelling to the Murray River with their stock to take up unclaimed land. In this case, the Aboriginal people are rescuers, who eventually return the woman to her husband.
