The writer of this letter to the Port Phillip Herald, signed 'Humanitas',
criticises Superintendent Charles La Trobe for failing to take decisive
action to retrieve the white woman rumoured to be a captive of the Aboriginal
people of Gippsland. Interestingly, the captive white woman Humanitas wrote
about was said to be held in the Portland Bay region.
Letter to the editor of the Port Phillip Herald 10 March 1846.
