This illustration depicts Deeming's dramatic transfer in Hobson's Bay (the stretch of water between Williamstown and St Kilda on Port Phillip Bay). In attempt to avoid waiting crowds, Deeming was transferred from the large ship, the S.S. Ballaarat, to one of three waiting vessels, each of which went in different directions.
