In Australia we have a federal government in Canberra and a state government in each of the state and territory capital cities. When we elect people to represent us they meet in Parliament House. The political party (such as the Liberal Party, National Party, Australian Labor Party, The Greens, Australian Democrats) that has the most Members of Parliament forms the Government. They decide what policies the country and its citizens will follow until the next election in 3 or 4 years and what rules, laws and decisions to make for the benefit of Australia, or their state or territory.
