To The Honorable the Members of the Legislative Assembly of the Colony of Victoria
The Humble Petition of the Master Bakers and others resident in Melbourne and neighbourhood
Sheweth
That your Petitioners are desirous that they and their Workmen and Servants should have a like opportunity of observing the Sabbath that other Members of the Community now have and which from the present state of Law with regard to the trade of your Petitioners which permits Sunday Trading they are now debarred from
That many of your Petitioners are compelled for self protection to carry on their business in the Sabbath and to employ their Workmen and Servants contrary to their own wishes and also contrary to religion
That your Petitioners are desirous that all Trading by Bakers on the Sabbath should be abolished by an Act of Parliament of this Colony Your Petitioners therefore most humbly pray that your Honorable House will pass a Bill to carry the above object into effect And your Petitioners will ever Pray &ct
