To The Honorable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Victoria.
The respectful Memorial of the undersigned Inhabitants of the City of Melbourne and Suburbs humbly Sheweth-
That in our opinion the opening of Museums Libraries and Art Galleries that are supported or subsidized by the Government, on Sundays, as on other days of the week, would greatly promote the moral and intellectual improvement of large classes of Her Majesty’s subjects in Victoria, and is thoroughly in accordance with the object and meaning of the Christian Sunday.
Wherefore your memorialists pray your Honorable House to take such steps as will enable such opening to be effected on Sundays
And your humble memorialists will ever pray etc.
