Downloading these files
The files on this page contain the complete text of the volumes in the series and are very large. The files will take some time to download entirely.

To speed viewing of its contents use the ‘Bookmark’ feature of your .pdf viewer. The
bookmarks jump to the beginning of each letter of the alphabet in the volume.

If you click on a bookmark link the pdf viewer will jump to downloading that page. You can then view or print that entry. If you have captured the information you need, use the 'back' button of your browser to stop the download of the file. You will need to wait until the complete file has finished downloading before you can save a copy to your local hard drive.

Using this record
The register contains an alphabetical list of patients at the Kew Asylum, recording dates of admission and discharge. Researchers should select the volume which covers the period they believe the patient was admitted.

Alphabetical listings of male patients are found on left-hand pages and female patients on righthand pages of the original volume.

The register can be used to find the date of admission of a patient, and then to locate patient information in VPRS 7397/P1 Case Books of Female Patients, VPRS 7398/P1 Case Books of Male Patients and VPRS 7693/P1 Patient Clinical Notes. To view these patient histories in the Victorian Archives Centre Reading Room, order the volume with the appropriate date range in the series you require through the website.

Further resources
As well as the patient case books mentioned above, another online series VPRS 7425/P1 Nominal Register of Patients records patients at the Kew Asylum and the Kew (Children's) Cottages for the period 1887-1906. Basic patient information can also be found in VPRS 7680/P1 Register of Patients, also available online.
