Using this record
This register records the admission details of patients admitted to the
Collingwood Asylum. Patients' entries are arranged chronologically by
date of admission. The volume has an alphabetical index at the beginning
to help you locate the page where a patient's entry can be found.
Details that can be found on each two-page spread include date of last/previous
admission, number in order of admission, the patient`s full name, age,
sex, marital status, previous place of abode and the date of the medical
certificates provided. Details concerning the form of mental disorder,
the supposed cause of insanity and the type and duration of attack are
also given, as is the date of discharge, removal or death.
Browse the index (which is found at the beginning of the volume) to find
the name of the patient you are looking for. Then browse the images that
follow the index images to locate the required page number at the top
of each right-hand page. Patient information will be spread across this
image and the one immediately preceding it.
This patient register can be used to locate patient histories in VPRS
7404/P1 Case Books of Male and Female Patients, which are arranged
by date of admission, but also have an alphabetical index of patient names
at the beginning of each volume.
