Using this record
This alphabetical index should be used to find registration numbers for
female prisoners
received into custody at Victorian prisons between 1857 and 1948. Prisoners
are listed
alphabetically by the first letter of their surnames. Because of the overlapping
chronological arrangement of the two volumes listed above, you may need
to consult both to locate the prisoner name for which you are searching.
The alphabetical listings include the registration
number, prisoner name, and the volume and page number of the register
in which their details can be found. To obtain further prisoner information,
take note of the registration, volume and page numbers to view the appropriate
sheet of the microfiche copy of the register VPRS 516/P1 Central
Register of Female Prisoners in PROV reading rooms.
