Building design

The building has been designed to provide a secure, stable storage environment that guards against degradation, damage and theft.

Thermal performance
Very stable temperatures and humidity are required to preserve records and art works in their original condition. The use of insulated panels in construction and the installation of sophisticated mechanical systems will ensure stable interior climate zones.

Fire protection
Maximum protection will be achieved through the installation of smoke detection devices, a wet-pipe sprinkler system with a backup hydrant/hose-reel system, smoke compartmentalisation and an alarm and evacuation system.

Integrated pest management
Records can be damaged by insect and rodent infestations. Integrated pest management will be achieved through suitable building design (limiting locations where insects and other pests may harbour and breed), building and collection management procedures, and a pest management program.

Security
Given the cultural and monetary value of the material to be stored, the building will be protected by electronic systems monitored on-site 24 hours a day.
