PROV Endorsed Tools
The Public Record Office Victoria (PROV) endorses tools issued by State and National bodies which support the better management of Victorian public records. The following tools have been endorsed for use by Victorian government agencies:

Principles and Functional Requirements for Records in Electronic Office Environments

The stated aim of the Principles and Functional Requirements for Records in Electronic Office Environments project was to produce globally harmonised principles and functional requirements for software which is used to create and manage electronic records in office environments. That aim is realised in this suite of publications which comprise three modules:

>> Overview and Statement of Principles

>> Guidelines and Functional Requirements for Electronic Records management Systems

>> Guidelines and Functional Requirements for Records in Business Systems

The project was sponsored by the International Council on Archives as an activity in its Electronic Records and Automation Priority area.

Records Management Checklist

The Victorian Auditor-General's Office (VAGO) has released a Records Management Checklist to improve the management of government records and help agencies fulfil their obligations under the Public Records Act. Standard on Full and Accurate Recordkeeping

Developed and issued by State Records Authority New South Wales , this Standard provides the high level principles governing the creation of full and accurate records. A link to the State Records Authority New South Wales web page featuring the Standard is provided below:

AS ISO 15489 Australian Standard on Records Management

Issued in 2002 by both the International Standards organisation and Standards Australia, AS ISO 15489 has become the benchmark standard for developing and implementing recordkeeping systems.

AS 4390 Australian Standard on Records Management

PROV formerly endorsed AS 4390. It is now deprecated in favour of AS ISO 15489.

Issued in 1996 by Standards Australia, the Australian Standard on Records Management AS 4390 comprises of 6 modules: part 1 General; part 2 Responsibilities; part 3 Strategies; part 4 Control; part 5 Appraisal and Disposal; and part 6 Storage.
