Good Records - Good Business - Good Governance

PROV’s awareness program Good Records - Good Business - Good Governance is a “ready-made” recordkeeping awareness program you can deliver in your own organisation, without having to sacrifice time and energy on developmental requirements. Click here for more information.

Records Management Concepts -- Records

This half-day course introduces the requirements for recordkeeping in the Victorian public sector, and the characteristics of a record as defined in the Australian/International Standard on Records Management (AS ISO15489). Records Management Concepts -- Records is aimed at people who are relatively new to records management in the public sector.

Records Management Concepts -- Systems, Storage and Disposal

This half-day course follows on from Records Management Concepts -- Records. It outlines the characteristics of recordkeeping systems, again as defined in the Australian/International Standard on Records Management, and includes disposal, functional analysis, capture, and classification.

Getting Ready for VERS

This one-day course outlines some of the issues that arise when electronic records are not managed properly. It introduces the Victorian Electronic Records Strategy (VERS) and practical guidance on how it can be applied in an agency. The course covers

  • What is VERS and what does it mean for my organisation?
  • Getting started on a VERS project
  • Recordkeeping foundations for a VERS project
  • VERS and system design
  • Keeping digital recordkeeping on your organisational agenda
  • Getting Ready for VERS is suitable for Records Management practitioners and others who have formal responsibilities for managing an agency's information or records

Takeaway Concepts

Takeaway Concepts is delivered in-house at agencies to up to twenty people. It combines the core principles and practices covered in Records Management Concepts -- Records, Records Management Concepts -- Systems, Storage and Disposal and Getting Ready for VERS into a one-day workshop. The workshop is tailored for specific agencies, and typically covers topics such as:

  • Records and responsibilities, systems, rules and tools
  • Capture & control
  • Information retrieval
  • Disposal
  • VERS

VERS Technical

VERS Technical is an intensive PC-based course of one day duration. In the course participants have an opportunity to develop a thorough understanding of VERS objects in a ‘hands on’ environment. Participants spend the day viewing, creating, using and dismantling VERS Encapsulated Objects (VEOs). Topics covered include:

  • Viewing VEOs
  • the VERS Document Type Definition
  • VEO metadata
  • File VEOs
  • Binary documents and how they are stored in a VEO
  • VEOs containing multiple documents and renditions
  • use of digital signatures in a VEO
  • creation of onion VEOs
  • creating VEOs

This course will suit people who are already familiar with the VERS standard and the general structure of a VEO, ideally having previously attended at least one other VERS course. Participants should also have basic PC skills, and some familiarity with html or xml would be useful.
