Privacy Principles and this Website

Protecting your privacy and your personal information is an important aspect of the way Public Record Office Victoria creates, organises and implements our activities on-line and off-line. Our privacy policy supports and endorses the state and national privacy regimes.

This site contains forms to collect personal details from you in order to supply you with PROV publications and information about PROV training activities. We will only collect personal information from you with your prior knowledge and consent. You can access our website home page and browse our site without disclosing personal information.

We will only use personal information provided by you for the purposes for which it was collected. We will not disclose your personal information to a third party. We ensure that your personal information will not be disclosed to other State institutions and authorities except if required by law or other regulation.

Between October 2003 and March 2004, PROV is participating in a survey of government internet browsing habits. As part of this survey, code has been installed on this site that logs computers that visit the site and requests users to fill out a survey form. Information about individual computers and the pages they visit is collected as part of this process by Red Sheriff, the company contracted to do the survey. No personal information is able to be collected by this code. Information collected as part of the survey is only used in aggregate form.

To collect survey data this site uses cookies to register which users have already participated. A "cookie" is a small block of data placed on users' computers that identifies those computers to the survey collection application.

We have implemented technology and security policies and procedures to protect the personal information that we have under our control from unauthorised access, improper use, alteration, unlawful or accidental destruction and accidental loss. We will remove personal information from our system where it is no longer required (except where archiving is required).

If you have queries or concerns about your PROV's privacy policies and this website, please contact:
