Implementing VERS in the Department of Infrastructure (VERS@DOI) In May 1999, the Department of Infrastructure (DOI) obtained $4.8 million in funding under the Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) program to implement a VERS compliant recordkeeping system. The implementation was designed to serve as a whole of government pilot and help to build an experience base to support further VERS roll-outs across Victorian Government. The project ran for three years and ultimately delivered a system that captured digital records from both the desktop and applications, storing them as Vers Encapsulated Objects (VEOs) in a recordkeeping system. Through a tender process, DOI engaged the services of consultants (Alphawest) to build the VERS extensions to the Tower Software TRIM Context software product to deliver a VERS compliant recordkeeping system. DOI has made much of the intellectual property created in the course of this pilot project, including some software, available to other agencies wishing to implement VERS solutions. Along with PROV, DOI will provide ongoing advice and mentoring to other VERS roll-outs across government, helping to streamline processes and efficiently bring the government into a VERS-compliant network. design phase of the VERS@DOI project and provides additional detail to
that outlined in the Strategy Report (above). The report was prepared
