Comments

This element is deprecated for use in a VEO as a record may contain many Documents in multiple languages. Element M120 DOCUMENT LANGUAGE should be used instead.

The International Standard (ISO 639) list of language codes should be used to determine the value of M41 Language. A list of these codes can be found in ‘Codes for the Representation of Names of Languages – Part 2: Alpha-3 Code’ available at http://www.loc.gov/standards/iso639-2/langhome.html (visited 17 Jan 2003). Note that where a language has a two-letter and a three-letter code, the two-letter code should be used in preference to the three-letter code.

Note: the code for English is ‘en’.
