| Management of Electronic Records PROS 99/007 (Version 2) The Victorian Electronic Records Strategy (VERS) NEW! 02/06/2009: Fact Sheet 1 discusses which digital certificate to obtain to sign VEOs for transfer to PROV. View the fact sheet below. (01/07/2008): The Victorian Government has recently committed to the implementation of the Commonwealth Government's Protective Security Manual (PSM) for the classification and protection of sensitive records. PROV is aware that agencies need to be able to meet their new classification requirements under the PSM, as well as remaining in compliance with the VERS Standard. To facilitate this, Justine Heazlewood, Director and Keeper of Public Records, has approved a revision to Specification 2 of the VERS Standard (VERS Metadata Scheme). This revision affects VERS metadata element M25 Security Classification. While it does not change the status of the metadata element, which was and remains mandatory, M25 now lists the relevant security classification values derived from the PSM. View the changes below (24.01.2007) A VERS Toolkit has been released. This model Java code for creating VEOs and manifests is available for download and use in your products at no cost. See below. (14.08.2006) Specification 4 has been updated to add four new long term preservation formats: PDF/A, JPEG, JPEG-2000, and MPEG-4. Specification 5 has been updated to take into account changes necessary to export to PROV's new digital archive. The Victorian Electronic Records Strategy (VERS) addresses the cost-effective, long-term, preservation of electronic records. The structure and requirements of VERS are formally specified in the Standard for the Management of Electronic Records (PROS 99/007) and its five technical specifications. There are also six Advices that describe aspect of VERS. The relationship between the VERS Standard, the Specifications that support this Standard, and the Introduction and Advices that explain VERS is shown below.
