About the Review
The Disposal Standard Review project consists of the review and update of PROS 10/13 Disposal Standard and associated Specifications as part of Public Record Office Victoria’s (PROV’s) Continuous Improvement Program.
Why are we reviewing the Disposal Standard?
PROV aims to streamline and update the Standard and Specifications so they are clear, practical and relevant for Victorian Government agencies.
An internal review by key PROV personnel identified a number of required changes including:
- Removal of the Accuracy principle from the Disposal Standard
- Removal of 15 requirements across the three Specifications
- Rearrangement of the principles to better reflect the workflow from authorisation to action
- Rephrasing of existing principles and requirements to improve clarity
- Adjustment of examples of evidence to improve clarity.
Feedback on the revised Disposal Standard
We at PROV are interested in ensuring that the revised Standard and Specifications we have developed are easy to understand and practical to use.
We welcome comments and feedback from Victorian Government agencies (those required to implement the Standard and Specifications) as well as other records and information management professionals.

A two-hour round table discussion session about the Disposal Standard Review will be held at PROV toward the end of the commenting period to discuss the written feedback received.
