Public Record Office Victoria (PROV) has Reading Room locations at North Melbourne and Ballarat, and we support regional archives which hold public records - in particular at Bendigo and Geelong. Find out how to search records held at the locations below by heading to our Searching records not held at North Melbourne topic page.

Ballarat

The Ballarat Archives Centre holds a wide variety of records relating to Ballarat and its development such as rate books, divorce records, prison registers and more. You can order these records via the PROV website and then view them in the new Joan Hunt Reading Room, now located in the Eureka Centre, 102 Stawell Street South, Ballarat Central.

Bendigo

The Bendigo Regional Archives Centre (BRAC) holds regional records dating from 1856 through to the 1970s including maps and plans, council correspondence, rate books, court records and more.  BRAC is governed by Public Record Office Victoria in conjunction with the Goldfields Library Corporation and the City of Greater Bendigo. Most of BRAC's records can be ordered through the PROV website, while some need to be ordered directly through BRAC. Visit their website for more information. Records can be viewed in the Bendigo Reading Rooms in the upper level of the Bendigo Library, Hargreaves Street, Bendigo.
